Mrs. Nelson Bertholf, former resident of Winterset, died Nov. 11, at her home in Las Vegas, Nev., following a series of heart attacks. She was 65 years of age, and death came as she was sitting in a chair Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Bertholf was the former Nell Whedon, daughter of Winfield Scott and Jennie Lothrop Whedon, and was born in Winterset on Aug. 16, 1877. Most of her life was spent in this community.
She was married to Nelson Bertholf in 1910. They were the parents of one daughter. Mr. Bertholf died in 1934. Mrs. Bertholf and the daughter moved to California a few years ago, and she had just recently moved to Nevada to be with her son-in-law and daughter.
During her long residence in this community, Mrs. Bertholf took an active part in its affairs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the Eastern Star lodge, and was active in the P.T.A. and the Red Cross.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. J. Leonard Treece, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Oscar P. Olson. Both Mrs. Treece and Mrs. Olson live at Las Vegas.
Funeral services were held here Tuesday from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. Arthur Mortenson, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. At the same time, interment rites were held for the ashes of Mrs. Maud Whedon Smith, sister of Mrs. Bertholf, whose death occurred at Iowa City on Jan. 10 of this year.
