EVA GOULD STRAIGHT, Winterset

Eva Marie Gould Straight, 92, of Winterset, formerly of Taylor County, died March 6, 2000.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 9, at Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Ted DeHass officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.

Eva Gould Straight was born Dec. 31, 1907, to Andrew and Nellie (Hill) Goff of Bedford. She grew up in the Taylor County area, attending school in the Bedford area. She married Fred Gould on Sept. 1, 1925, in Maryville, Mo. She and her husband Fred farmed in Taylor County until his death in 1957. Eva also was employed as a switchboard operator in Conway and for the Mental Health Hospital in Clarinda until her retirement in 1965. On Jan. 30, 1964, she was united in marriage to Marion Straight in Bedford. Marion preceded her in death in 1969. She lived in New Market until 1978, when she moved to Grant City where she lived before moving to the Winterset/St. Charles area until her death. She was a member of the New Market Rebekah Lodge where she served as president and attended the United Methodist Church. She also had been active as a 4-H leader and with the Conway P.T.A.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Gould and Marion Straight, her parents, a son, an infant daughter, a brother, three sisters and three infant great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Lois Downing (husband Harold) of Grant City, Mo.; a son, Robert Gould (wife Connie) of St. Charles; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Gould of Carlisle; five sisters, Alma Ridenour of Red Oak, Viva Lantz of Carson City, Nev., Lela Armstrong of Rock Island, Ill., Helen Doermann of Richmond, Va., and Carol Stout (husband Warren) of Richmond, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
