Dean Lillie, Winterset

Dean E. Lillie, 72, of rural Winterset, died Dec. 18, 1996 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were Dec. 21 at Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield. Pastor Neil Platon officiated the services and burial was at the Greenfield Cemetery. Military graveside rites were given by the Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and the V.F.W. Post No. 5357.

He was born Sept. 17, 1924 in Marengo to Marcus and Ila (Burns) Lillie. He attended rural schools and graduated from Greenfield High School. He married Helen Endres on Oct. 2, 1945 at the First Methodist Church in Des Moines. He farmed in Adair County and had served in the U.S. Army. He also worked at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset and the Winterset High School. He was a member of the Adair County Farm Bureau, the Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and the V.F.W. Post No. 5357.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one daughter-in-law.

Surviving relatives include his wife; two daughters, Linda Leonard and husband George of Keota, and Janet Wagner and husband George of LeMars; three sons, Mike Lillie and wife Delores of Washington, Ia., Mark Lillie and wife Barb of Winterset and David Lillie and wife Tammy of Beaver Dam, Wisc.; one sister, Betty Strauser of Midland, Texas; one sister-in-law, Marguerite Lillie of Earlham; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
