Raymond Lehmer, Orleans, Neb.

Funeral services for Raymond Joseph Lehmer, a former Madison County resident, were held recently in Orleans, Neb. Mr. Lehmer died at his home there on March 10, 1982, at the age of 58.

Born Feb. 5, 1924 in St. Charles, he was the son of John and Margaret Burg Lehmer. He was reared on a farm until the age of 12 when his family moved to northwest Missouri.

In 1942 he was inducted into the armed forces where he served with Company A, 9th Armored Infantry. He was wounded in action in 1944, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He also received the Combat Infantry Badge, Certificate of Merit and Expert Rifleman Badge.

After Mr. Lehmer's discharge, he returned to Iowa where he was engaged in farming and the fuel business. In 1951 he was appointed a rural mail carrier in Peru and continued farming until 1964 when he moved to Arizona as a city mail carrier. In 1967 Mr. Lehmer moved to Nebraska where he was a rural mail carrier until his retirement.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Lucille; and a granddaughter.

Mr. Lehmer is survived by four daughters, Della Dudney of Lorimor, Phyllis Kulisky of Washington, Ia.; Debra Kinder of Oxford and Ramona Rae Lehmer of Orleans; two sons, Raymond of Tucson and Donald of Orleans; a brother, Louis of St. Charles; a sister, Theresa of Des Moines; and five grandchildren.
