Resident Here Most of Life Dies at 39 Years of Age
Mrs. Vergie L. Leeper, died Saturday, Jan. 14 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Henry Taylor, in Douglas township. She was 39 years of age.
Mrs. Leeper was the former Vergie Lucille Hymes, daughter of Charles and Harriett Addy Hymes. She was born in Madison county Jan. 27, 1921 and lived most of her life here.
She graduated from the Winterset high school with the class of 1939, then taught school in Madison county for several years. She later moved to Des Moines, where she was employed as a bookkeeper for Prophet company.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Sawhill of Des Moines; and five sisters, Mrs. Elnora Barnes of Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Edna Taylor of Winterset and Mrs. Maxine Thompson, Mrs. Phyllis Howell and Mrs. Mondeva Mueller, all of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the First Baptist church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Robert Damon. Burial was made in the North McDonald cemetery.
