BESSIE LEE OF WINTERSET DIES

Life-Long Resident Passed Monday After Long Illness

Miss Bessie Lee, one of Winterset's most widely-known residents for many years, died at her home here Monday after a long illness. Had she lived one more day she would have been 68 years of age.

Miss Lee was born in Winterset and spent her entire life here. She was a daughter of C. P. and Urilla Lee. She attended the Winterset schools and graduated from the local high school.

About 1898 she entered employment as a clerk in the Wheelock Dry Goods store here. She later was associated with H. N. Shaw and company over a long period of years.

Miss Lee had been a member of the Winterset Baptist church since early life. She was also a member of the Eastern Star lodge.

Her only near surviving relative is a sister, Mrs. Lee Graham of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Von B. Elbert, pastor of the Winterset Baptist church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

BESS LEE DIES AT HOME MONDAY

Last Rites To Be Held This Afternoon, Thursday. One Sister Survives.

Miss Bess Lee, life time resident of Winterset, died at her home here Monday, following an extended period of ill health. She had been in poor health for the past two years but had been bedfast at her home since January. She would have celebrated her sixty-eighth birthday anniversary Tuesday, September 8.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, at two o’clock at the Ramsey–Richards funeral home with Rev. Von Elbert, pastor of the Baptist church in charge. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

Bess Lee was born in Winterset September 8, 1874, the daughter of C. P. and your Urilla Lee. She was one of seven children. She attended Winterset schools and graduated from the Winterset high school. She was a sales clerk in the Wheelot and Shaw grocery store for a number of years.

In her early childhood she joined the Baptist church and was an active member as long as her health permitted. She also was a member of the Eastern Star lodge.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Nell Graham of Winterset.
