MORTUARY

MINNIE IOLA ENGLISH

Minnie Iola English was the third in a family of five children of Arwin A. and Alma B. Bradford. She was born in Oakfield, Wis., Aug. 19, 1859, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. O. Richards in Winterset, Sunday evening, March 26 at 9 p.m., after a ten days illness, having reached the age of 84 years, 7 months and 7 days.

Her family moved to Concordia, Kan., when she was 6 years of age, immediately after the Civil war. They were the second family to settle there, and the rigors of early frontier life were well known to her childhood and youth.

At Concordia, April 30, 1878, she was united in marriage to Charles J. English, the Golden Wedding anniversary of which they lived to enjoy together in 1926.

To this union were born five children, two dying in infancy, and a son, George F. English, deceased, in July 1925. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. F. O. Richards of Winterset, and Mrs. James B. Carter of Kansas City, Kan.; also 7 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was an active and tireless helpmate throughout their long life together. In the pastorates at Lanora and Glen Elder, Kan., at DeSoto, Panora, Dexter, Colfax, Winterset, Villisca, Harlan and Shenandoah, at St. Joseph, Cameron and Kirksville in Missouri, at Albian, Michigan, and in church service at Brookfield, Mo., until Rev. English's death, July 7, 1933, she was loved by all who knew her for her cheerful and self-effacing response to all demands.
