Cecil Eugene (Gene) Sweet, 76, of St. Charles died of cancer July 9, 2000, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, July 12) at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Max Bloom officiating. Burial will be at Montpelier Cemetery.
Gene Sweet was born March 12, 1924, to Samuel Irl and Anna Elizabeth (Rischmiller) Sweet of Adrian, Mo. He moved to the Winterset/Patterson area in 1931, then moved near Martensdale in 1950. He married Deloris Sowder on Aug. 9, 1953, in Des Moines. A farmer, Gene was a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau (and a former board member) and a former board member of the Martensdale-St. Marys Community School District.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sons.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Craig Sweet and Brian Sweet (wife Lesley), both of St. Charles, and Bruce Sweet (wife Deborah) of Mitchellville; five sisters, Marjorie Boyd of St. Charles, Irlene Johnson of Booneville, Dorothy Hauck of Grinnell, Helen Sweet of Minnesota and Carol Millican of Texas; and six grandchildren.
