Glen Lathrum, Winterset

Glen Lathrum, 101, a former St. Charles resident, died April 26, 2001 of a heart ailment at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 30, at the St. Charles Parish Church with the Rev. Darold Snow and Pastor Jim Patrick officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Glen Lathrum was born Oct. 15, 1899, to Samuel and Mirum (Schultz) Lathrum. A 1919 graduate of St. Charles High School, he married Caroline Mary Picken on Aug. 9, 1922 in Osceola. A farmer, he was a resident of St. Charles for most of his life. Glen had served on the St. Charles Community School Board, had been a Red Cross representative for South Township during World War II and had been a committee member of the first AAA program measuring and tabulating acreages for farmers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, three sisters, a brother, a great-grandson and a son-in-law.

He is survived by a son, Robert Lathrum (wife Cora) of Greenfield; a daughter, Delores VanDike of Norwalk; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Charles Parish Church or West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
