1976Elsie Lathrum Dies At 94
A former resident of Truro, born in Cumming, Elsie May Lathrum, 94, died Saturday, December 18, 1976, at Villa West Care Center in Winterset. Born July 26, 1905 she was the daughter of John and Rosalie Slayden Miles.
Educated in Madison County schools, Mrs. Lathrum married James Henkle Lathrum on July 26, 1905, in Hanley, Iowa. The couple had six children.
Mrs. Lathrum was affiliated with the Methodist church and the Philathea S.S. Class.
Survivors include two sons, Lester Lathrum of Carpentria, Calif. and Ivan Lathrum of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Huston of Truro and Mrs. Lola Estes of Osceola; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Lathrum of Ventura, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and two sisters, Kathryn Taylor of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. George (Doris) Huston of Chariton, Iowa.
Mrs. Lathrum was preceded in death by her parents and husband and two sons, Lloyd and Doyle.
Funeral services for Elsie Lathrum were conducted Monday, December 20, at 1:30 p.m. from Kale Funeral Home, Rev. David Wagner officiating. Burial was made at the Young Cemetery in Truro.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 20, for Elsie May Lathrum, 94, who died at the Villa West Care Center in Winterset on Saturday, December 18, 1976. The Rev. David Wagner of Truro officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service which was held from the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. Interment was in Young Cemetery, Truro.
Elsie May Lathrum was born August 7, 1882, in Cummings, Iowa, daughter of John Miles and Rosalie Slayden Miles. She attended schools in Madison County and on July 26, 1905, was married to James Henkle Lathrum in Hanley, Iowa. Six children were born to this union. She was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Philathea Sunday School Class.
She is survived by son, Lester Lathrum and wife, Geraldine of Carpentria, California, daughter, Mrs. Hazel Huston of Truro, son, Ivan Lathrum and wife, Agnes of Des Moines, daughter, Mrs. Lola Estes and husband, Dwight of Osceola, daughter-in-law, Vicki Lathrum of Ventura, California; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Kathryn Taylor of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mrs. George (Doris) Huston of Chariton.
Preceding her in death were her husband, James, son Loyd and son, Doyle.
