Charles E. Lamb, Winterset

Charles E. Lamb, 79, of Winterset, died of respiratory failure Oct. 31, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with Pastor Steve Koch officiating. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.

Charles Lamb was born March 21, 1921, to William H. and Jessie M. (Douglas) Lamb of Truro. A World War II veteran of the United States Army, he married Mildred M. Pettis on Oct. 6, 1941 in Bethany, Mo. She preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1982. He later married Ethel Howell Strable on Jan. 15, 1983 in Adel. He was a long-time resident of Clarke County and worked for the Department of Transportation in highway maintenance for 22 years, retiring in 1981. Charles spent 17 years in Madison County and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 of Winterset and the D.A.V.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mildred and six brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two daughters, Karen Trumbo (husband Robert) and Linda Shaw (husband Wilbur), both of Des Moines; two sons, Larry Lamb (wife Janice) of Decatur and Gary Lamb of Des Moines; two stepdaughters, Bonnie L. Sharon (husband Bernard) of Redfield and Nadine Sparks (husband Ronald) of Des Moines; two stepsons, David Strable (wife Oma) of Stigler, Okla., and Dennis Strable (wife Melinda) of Ankeny; a brother, Earl Schlomer of Grimes; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.

CHARLES E. LAMB

Charles E. Lamb of Winterset, son of William H. and Jessie M. Douglas Lamb, was born March 21, 1921, in Truro and died Oct. 31, 2000, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 79.

He married Mildred M. Pettis on Oct. 6, 1941, in Bethany, Mo. She died on Feb. 22, 1982.

Mr. Lamb served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a longtime resident of Clarke County and worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in highway maintenance for 22 years before he retired in 1981.

A resident of Madison County for 17 years, he was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 of Winterset and the D. A. V.

Mr. Lamb married Ethel Howell Strable on Jan. 15, 1983, in Adel.

In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers.

Mr. Lamb is survived by his wife, Ethel Lamb of Winterset; two daughters, Karen Trumbo and her husband, Robert Trumbo and Linda Shaw and her husband, Wilbur Shaw, of Des Moines; two sons, Larry Lamb and his wife, Janice Lamb, of Decatur and Gary Lamb of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Bonnie L. Sharon and her husband, Bernard Sharon, of Redfield and Nadine Sparks and her husband, Ronald Sparks, of Des Moines; two stepsons, David Strable and his wife, Oma Strable, of Stigler, Okla. and Dennis Strable and his wife, Melinda Strable, of Ankeny; 12 stepgrandchildren and nine great-stepgrandchildren and a brother, Earl Schlomer of Grimes.

Funeral services were Nov. 3 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset, Pastor Steve Koch officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.

Ochiltree Funeral Service of Winterset was in charge of arrangements.
