Helen Tuttle, the daughter of Frederick P. and Lavina Foresman Hartsook, was born January 11, 1903 in Winterset. She grew up in this community, graduating from Winterset High School in 1921. She graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1925. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She then taught mathematics in Marshalltown and Indianola.
In January of 1930 she married Karl Tuttle of Spencer and has lived in that community ever since.
She was very involved in the affairs of the P.E.O. sisterhood. She served as president of Chapter AT and then after helping to found Chapter KF she became their president. She served on the Executive Board of the Iowa State Chapter from 1953 through 1959. She was state president in 1959 and chaired the sisterhood's national Centennial Commission in 1960.
She was an active member of the Congregational Church and a charter member of the Mayflower Guild.
She died at the hospital in Spencer on October 11, 1989 at the age of 86.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by two sons, Frederick Morris of Lincoln, Nebraska and Robert F. of Bloomington, Minnesota, and by four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
