Winterset Woman Succumbs Following Emergency Operation
Mrs. E. M. Easter, one of Winterset's most popular young matrons, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines last Friday following a major operation.
Had she lived four more days, she would have been 41 years of age.
Mrs. Easter had been in failing health for several years. After being stricken seriously ill suddenly last week, she was rushed to the Des Moines hospital for an emergency operation, which was followed by her death Friday.
Mrs. Easter was the former Inez Galloway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Galloway, and was born April 25, 1903, in Scottville, Mich. Her father was a Methodist minister, and as a child she lived in communities in several states where he had charges.
She attended high school in Norwalk, graduating there with the class of 1922, and then attended Simpson college at Indianola.
She was married to E. M. Easter on Sept. 3, 1924, at Osceola. They made their home at Norwalk until moving to Winterset eight years ago. Since then, this community had been their home.
Mrs. Easter was a member of the Church of Christ and was active in the church organizations. She conducted the choir for several years.
She is survived by her husband; two children, Jack of the U.S. navy, who is ill with rheumatic fever at the navy hospital at Farragut, Idaho, and Marilyn at home; her parents of Norwalk; and one sister, Mrs. Earl Hatfield of Norwalk.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Winterset Church of Christ, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Tom Foglesong. Burial was made in the Norwalk cemetery.
