JOHN W. GARST DIED LAST WEEK

Funeral Services Were Held Last Friday With Burial at Peru

John W. Garst, long-time resident of Madison county, died on Wednesday of last week in Winterset. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. Garst was born in Clarke county on Jan. 16, 1864, the son of Samuel and Nancy Fowler Garst. Most of his life was spent in Madison county. He was married Dec. 19, 1891, to Mary Ellen Hogg. She died four years ago.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Stuart and Mrs. Clarence Gardner of Winterset; four grandsons, two of whom are in the service; one granddaughter; two great granddaughters; three sisters, and a brother.

Funeral arrangements were held last Friday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

LAST RITES FOR JOHN W. GARST

Died March 8 At Daughter’s Home Here, Funeral Held Friday

John W. Garst of Winterset died Wednesday, march 8, at the home of his daughter here, at the age of 80 years.

Funeral services were held at the Ramsey-Richards Funeral Home on Friday, march 10, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Tom Foglesong officiated, and burial was in the Peru cemetery.

John William Garst, son of Samuel and Nancy Fowler Garst, was born in clark county, Iowa, on January 16, 1864. On December 19, 1891, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Hogg, and they were the parents of two daughters. He was one of the pioneers of this section of the country. His wife preceded him in death four years ago.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Stuart and Mrs. Clarence Gardner, both of Winterset; four grandsons, two of whom are in the service; one granddaughter; two great granddaughters; three sisters and one brother.
