Death of MRS. MARY TRUNKEY

The body of Mrs. Mary Trunkey, a long time resident of this community, was returned here, Sunday, for funeral and burial. For the past two years on account of her frail health, she has been living at Andrew, Jackson county, Iowa, at the home of William C. and Clark McPeak. About 5:30 Wednesday evening, February 8th, she suffered a stroke and fell, fracturing her hip, and passed away at 6 o'clock, Thursday morning, February 9th.

Mary Vashtie McPeak, daughter of Charles and Dorcas McPeak, was born in Jackson county, Iowa, May 31, 1850. She was one of a family of twelve children, eight brothers and three sisters. She is survived by two brothers, William C. McPeak of Andrew, Iowa, and Albert McPeak of Harrisburg, Colorado. She was married to Frank Trunkey in April 1872. They lived on a farm southeast of Van Meter, later moving to town, where Mr. Trunkey died thirty-three years ago. Although Mrs. Trunkey had no children of her own, she was always a lover of children and raised the two youngest children of her sister, Mrs. Wright.

A service was held in Andrew, Iowa, and then the body was shipped here, where a service was held at the United Brethren church, conducted by Rev. S. C. Peterson. Burial was in the Booneville cemetery by the side of her husband.

Among those here from a distance for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wright of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Wright and Mr. and Mrs. John R. Atkins, all of Adel.
