DALE KIRBY OF WINTERSET DIES

J. Dale Kirby, a well-known Winterset resident most of his life, died Saturday, Jan. 4, at his home here, after an extended illness. He was 71 years of age.

Mr. Kirby had spent his life in this community, except for 11 years in California. He was born here Aug. 2, 1897, a son of Joe and Dolly Lucas Kirby. He worked as a truck driver for many years, but since 1963 had operated a taxi service in Winterset.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leona Kirby of Winterset; two stepsons, Lyle Fish of Winterset and Eldon Hunt of Hubbard; eight step-grandchildren; a brother, George Kirby of Burbank, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Lucille Harris of DeLano, Calif.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. William Bowles, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
