Funeral services for George William Kinnaird, 81, will be held Thurs., Dec. 26 at 1:30 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Zona Lautt officiating. Mr. Kinnaird died December 22 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, of cancer.
A descendent of the original abolitionist Kentucky settlers in Madison County, he was born to Joseph Logan and Anna Lora (Johnston) Kinnaird on January 20, 1910. He attended Martensdale High School where he excelled in track, long jump and as a baseball pitcher. He married Marjorie Cunningham Decembver 30, 1933 in Winterset; and they made their home in Patterson until 1943 when they moved to the Gibson Cunningham farmstead near Patterson which they achieved ownership of in 1962. Mr. Kinnaird was employed for many years by the Rock Island Railroad Company and later by Solar Aircraft in Des Moines, where he was recognized as a valuable inventor in the experimental department and a member of Patterson United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Corwin of Winterset; two daughters, Coreen Nelson and Vickie Jones, both of Winterset; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Burial will be at Union Chapel Cemetery, Madison County. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
