Rites Held For JOYCE CORNELL

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Joyce (J. Robert) Cornell, former Winterset resident, in the Dickinson County Hospital Thursday evening, November 20th 1975, at the age of 85 years.

Mrs. Cornell was raised in Zearing, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, graduating in 1912. She was married to J. Robert Cornell of Winterset on October 5, 1916. They lived in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines before they came to Winterset in 1925.

He was assistant cashier of the Citizens National Bank in Winterset until the bank was reorganized and named the Farmers and Merchants State Bank and they moved to Spirit Lake, where he was a banker in 1936.

Mrs. Cornell was a member of the Tri Delta sorority at Iowa City and she belonged to P.E.O. and other clubs here.

Mr. Cornell preceded her in death. Survivors include two childen, Robert R. Cornell of Spirit Lake and a daughter, Mrs. A. M. (Jane) Handell of Dixon, Illinois. She also leaves seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cornell were held at the Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 25th, and burial was in the Spirit Lake Cemetery.
