Albert I. Kerns was born in Fayette county, June 28, 1858, and died January 18, 1929. He came to Madison county in 1877 and was married to Katharine Longnecker May 6, 1888. To this union were born 3 sons, Oren of Greenfield; Walter A. of Creston, and Verlin L. of Orient, all of whom were with him during his illness.
Mr. Kerns was converted and united with the M. E. Pleasantview church of the Macksburg charge, in 1893, of which church he was a faithful member to the end. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for 41 years.
He leaves to mourn his departure his bereaved widow, three sons and ten grandchildren. He was a faithful husband, father, and grandfather.
The funeral services were in charge of Rev. Chas. S. Lang, pastor of the Oak Grove Evangelical church. The subject of his address was "Glimpses Into the Spirit World," as based on Luke 16: 19-31. The services were at the Macksburg M. E. church, Sunday afternoon, January 20th, and burial was made in the Macksburg cemetery.
Besides the many friends and acquaintances attending the funeral services were those from a distance, Mr. and Mrs. Lovett and Cleo Burns, from Bethany, Missouri. Singing was in charge of the Macksburg M. E. choir. Mr. Kerns suffered much during his illness and was prepared to meet his Lord.
