Richard Carl Kellogg, Winterset

Funeral services for Richard Carl Kellogg of Winterset, were held Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic church here.

Mr. Kellogg died of an aneurysm last Saturday morning at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, following a week's illness. He was 44 years of age.

A son of Richard C. and Mary Kathryn Driscoll Kellogg, he was born in Winterset on July 25, 1939. He was a 1958 graduate of Winterset high school.

On June 14, 1959, he was married to Colleen Kay Wedemeyer at Winterset.

Mr. Kellogg was a member of St. Joseph's church, the Winterset Chamber of Commerce and John Wayne Birthplace committee. He founded the Shopper and Winterset Printing in 1970. He also owned and operated the Winterset Theater and published Farmer's Exchange, which he purchased in 1977.

He is survived by his wife Colleen; his father, Richard C. Kellogg of Los Angeles, Calif.; his mother, Kathryn Bell of Winterset; four daughters, Diane Kay McDonald, Cindy Marie Bush, Barbara Ann Kellogg and Amy Renee Kellogg, all of Winterset; a son, Robert Carl Kellogg of Winterset; and two grandchildren.

A Rosary service was held Monday evening from Collins Funeral home. Officiating at the funeral mass Tuesday morning was Father Maurice Schulte of St. Joseph's church. Burial was in Winterset cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Richard Kellogg journalism scholarship fund, for a deserving student.
