C. R. SMITH, 88, DIED AT CRESTON

Funeral Serives Were Held Here Tuesday Under Rev. W. A. Samp

Converse R. Smith, a well-known citizen of Winterset, died Sunday morning at the hospital in Creston, as the result of injuries sustained several weeks ago when he fell while working in his yard here. He was 88 years of age.

Mr. Smith was a native of Indiana, where he was born at Madison, Feb. 8, 1857, the son of John and Margaret Smith. When he was a small boy, the family moved to Pella in this state, where he was reared.

He was married to Ella Klever on June 19, 1895. They were the parents of five children, one of whom died 15 years ago. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Smith moved to Nebraska, where they lived for a number of years. They have resided in Winterset the past five years.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Norman Smith of Pontiac, Mich., Gail Smith of the U.S. navy, and Meredith Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Marion of Houston, Tex.; two brothers, Frank Smith of Seattle, Wash., and George Smith of Mankato, Kan.; a sister at Seattle; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
