Death of Mary Vee Rollstin

The people of this community were shocked to hear of the death of Mary Vee Rollstin, shortly after one o’clock, Wednesday, March 11. Mary Vee who was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Rollstin, had been ill for a week, but her condition was not regarded as serious. She has been teaching music this year, in the Everly schools, and her folks were summoned there by her illness last Thursday. Her condition did not improve, and they brought her home last Saturday. It was said that she had had an attack of influenza, and ear trouble had developed. Other complications came up Wednesday morning, and they were taking her to a Des Moines hospital, in the Ramsey Richards ambulance, when death came.

Mary Vee was twenty years of age. She would have been twenty-one on April 5th. She attended the local schools, and was graduated from the Winterset high school in 1927. Following her graduation she attended Stephens college at Col- (missing information) specialized in music. Last year she attended Simpson college at Indianola, and there became a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was also a member of the Eastern Star lodge, and of the Baptist church. Music was her major, and she gave private lessons in both vocal and instrumental music.

Mary Vee Rollstin was an attractive girl, and was friendly with everyone. She was a capable worker, and did much for her church, and for her other organizations, to which she belonged.

When the Madisonian went to press, Wednesday night, funeral arrangements had not yet been made.

A Tribute to Mary Vee

(Written by Mrs. Ross Peters)

Mary Vee was beloved by every member of her Church. With pride and love we have watched her growth and development – from a tiny baby to this beautiful woman. She has been an inspiration to everyone who knew her. In her home, her Church and her school, she rendered always an unselfish splendid service, giving of her abilities unstintingly and in a spirit so sweet and strong that everything she did bespoke her victorious Christian life.

Between her and her mother and father had grown the deepest companionship and in that companionship they had enjoyed many of the lovely things of life. Hers was a beautiful character and the soul building which began here is only hidden from our eyes by a thin veil, behind which it still goes up with unbroken continuity, rising into fairest beauty in the presence of God. God needed such a character and called Mary Vee.

We linger in the quiet atmosphere of remembrance and yet in our hearts there is sadness. She with whom we walked and talked, has gone away. A lovely, exquisite flower who has gone to bloom again in God’s own garden.

As we extend to the mother and father a deep and sincere sympathy, we rejoice with them, that all their memories of Mary Vee, like ours are sweet and beautiful; treasures to be cherished always. She will be missed not only in her home and in her church but in the community as well.
