SADIE F. DARNALL Died Wednesday

Former Winterset Business Woman was 80 Years of Age

Mrs. Sadie F. Darnall, a long-time resident of Winterset and member of an early family in this community, died last Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1960, at the home of her granddaugher, Mrs. Gordon Stowell, In Indianola. She was 80 years of age.

Mrs. Darnall was a native of Missouri, where she was born in DeKalb county on Nov. 14, 1879. She was the former Sadie Frances Cridling, daughter of John and Laura Evans Cridling. Four years later she moved with her parents to Nebraska, and then to Salemm, S. Dak., where they lived until 1891, when they came to Madison county. Most of the remainder of her life was spent here.

She was married Aug. 31, 1898, to Sale Darnall of Winterset. They were parents of two sons, one of whom died at birth.

Mrs. Darnall was engaged in business during much of her active life. She served as clerk in Winterset, then owned and operated a millinery store for a number of years here. She also operated a dress and hat shop at Ames, and later she operated a Ben Franklin store in Indianola in partnership with her son, Harold Darnall.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Business and Professional Women's Club, and the Pythian Sisters, of which she waas a past chief, and in which she had received a 50-year pin.

Mrs. Darnall's husband died in 1950. She is survived by the one son, Harold Darnall of Indianola; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Wilkinson of Winterset.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Richards Funeral home in Winterset, in charge of the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church here. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
