CLEO NELSON, Winterset

Cleo Dean Nelson, 82, of Winterset died Aug. 2, 2006, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 5, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Ed Hansen officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery.

Cleo Nelson was born March 7, 1924, to Floyd James and Allie Hazel (Shaner) DeBolt of Kellerton. On March 26, 1940, she married Raymond Riley in Des Moines. Following his death, she later married Andrew G. Nelson on May 10, 1969, in Ankeny. Cleo had been a waitress at Helen & Pat’s in Des Moines. She also worked at the Iowa State Fair. A resident of Winterset for the past four years, she also resided in Lorimor, Peru, Ankeny, Des Moines, and Tucson, Ariz. She was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church and its women’s group.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; one daughter, Shirley Riley; five brothers, Everett, Ray, Harlis, Floyd Jr. and Earl DeBolt; four sisters, Shirley Boylan, Madge Bennett, Myrtle Johnson and Ruth Kooker; one grandson, George Williams Jr.; and three great-grandsons, Brandon Craven, Christopher Priest and Preston Collins.

She is survived by one son, Raymond Riley Jr. of Des Moines; two daughters, Janice Cirksena and Sharon Holton, both of Lorimor; two stepsons, Dennis Nelson of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Daniel Nelson of Stockton, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Andrea Frease and Vickie Brooks, both of San Diego, Calif.; and 23 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
