James H. Dougherty, a resident of Madison county since 1908, died at his home here Monday at the age of 87 years.

Mr. Dougherty was born in Baltimore, Md., on April 3, 1857, the son of James and Mary Dougherty. He came to Iowa when he was 21 years old, settling in Cass county. There he was married, on Jan. 28, 1883, to Stella Porter. They were the parents of five daughters.

Mr. Dougherty moved his family to Madison county in 1908, and his home had been here since that time. One daughter, Ethel, died in 1939, and his wife succumbed in 1940.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Pearl Barrry of Creston, Mrs. Ida Toland of Lorimor, and Edna and Ola Dougherty at home. He also leaves five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday from the Ramsey-Richards Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

JAMES DOUGHERTY DIED HERE MONDAY

James Henry Dougherty died April 2, at the age of 87. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, April 3, 1857, the son of James and Mary Dougherty, and came to Iowa when he was 21, settling in Cass county. He moved to Madison county in 1908, and has resided here ever since.

He was united in marriage to Stella Porter on January 28, 1883, and to this union were born five daughters, one daughter, Ethel, preceding him in death in 1939. His wife also died in 1940.

Survivors are his four daughters, Pearl Barry of Creston, Ida Toland of Lorimor and Edna and Ola Dougherty who reside in Winterset. Also surviving are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 5 at Ramsey–Richards funeral home, with Rev. W. A. Sample officiating.
