Bernard Glenn Jeffryes, aged 18, formerly of Winterset was drowned in Clear Lake last Wednesday.
Jeffryes and a companion Charles Meyer of Des Moines, were swimming from a boat out in the lake. When the boat drifted too far away, Jeffryes apparently drowned before he could swim back to it.
Jeffryes was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jeffryes formerly of Winterset, who now live in Des Moines. The young man was born in this community, but moved to Des Moines with his parents about 10 years ago. He had been working in Mason City this summer.
