KATHERINE JEFFRIES DIED HERE TUESDAY

Death Ends Long Illness Services Scheduled For Friday

Mrs. Katherine Jeffries of near St. Charles died Tuesday, April 16 at Memorial hospital in Winterset, after an extended illness. She was 54 years of age.

Mrs. Jeffries was born in the Churchville community in Warren county, but had lived in Madison county since 1927. She was the former Katherine Shafer, daughter of John and Katherine Powers Shafer, and was born Oct. 31, 1908.

She was married in 1927 to Pearl Parkins of Winterset. His death occurred in 1949. Ten years later she was married to Ivan Jeffries, who survives her.

Mrs. Jeffries had been employed at the Club Cafe in Winterset for 16 years, but since 1959 had lived near St. Charles.

In addition to her husband, she leaves three sons, William Parkins of Winterset, Darrell Parkins of Arvada, a suburb of Denver, Colorado and Duane Parkins of Des Moines; a daughter Mary Kay of Winterset; five grandchildren; a brother, John Shafer of Newton; and three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Wiedman of St. Charles, Mrs. Mabel Ziegler of Winterset and Mrs. Pauline Jones of Austin, Minn.

Funeral services will be held Friday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset at 1:30 conducted by the Rev. Howard Cho of St. Charles with graveside services in Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines at 3:30.
