Funeral Services Conducted Saturday for Well-Known Resident
Mrs. Lester Janes of Scott township died at Memorial hospital here last Wednesday, July 6. She was 61 years of age.
Mrs. Janes was a resident of Madison county most of her life. She was born in this county, May 28, 1899, a daughter of Leonard and Odessa Pointer Mathews. She was married to Lester Janes in September 1919. For the past 20 years their home had been in Scott township, eight miles southeast of Winterset.
She was a member of the Patterson Methodist church.
One of her sons, Howard W. Janes, was killed in action while serving with the U.S. army in the Korean War.
She leaves her husband; two sons, Thomas and William Janes, both of Winterset; three daughters, Mrs. Dale Hall of Des Moines, Mrs. Claude Clear of Winterset and Mrs. Lee Cox of Dayton; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Edd Mathews of Des Moines; and five sisters, Mrs. Roy Cartwright of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Everett Bill of Perry; Mrs. Emma Jacobsen of Des Moines; Mrs. C. L. Sheets of West Des Moines; and Mrs. T. V. Weaver of Woodburn.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Richards Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. William C. Trembly. Burial was made in Union Chapel cemetery.
