Wednesday, March 14, 1945Mrs. Laura Skinner, wife of a former widely known Winterset physician, died last Friday at Ft. Madison where she had made her home in recent years. She was 79 years of age.
Mrs. Skinner was the former Laura L. Rankin, daughter of Samuel and Sarah Deselms Rankin, and was born in Danville on Aug. 12, 1865. At the age of 2 years, she moved with her parents to Peru in this county. When she was 17 years old she was married to Dr. George N. Skinner of Truro. They lived in Truro for four years, and then moved to Winterset, where Doctor Skinner practiced medicine for 38 years, until his death in 1925. In 1930, Mrs. Skinner moved to Ft. Madison to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Theodore Nabers.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Frank Skinner of Des Moines; two grandchildren; and a brother, O. L. Rankin of Winterset.
Mrs. Skinner was a charter member of the Pythian Sisters in Winterset. She was affiliated with the Presbyterian church, and was a member of the Order of eastern Star, King's Daughters, Federated Women's clubs, and Rebekahs.
Funeral services were held here Sunday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, and burial was made beside the body of her husband in the Winterset cemetery, the Rev. Arthur Mortenson was in charge.
