Wednesday, February 21, 1945, page 1Funeral services for James E. Williams of Winterset, prominent retired farmer here, were held last Friday from the Ramsey-Richards Funeral home in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Methodist church.
Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
His death had occurred Wednesday of last week.
Mr. Williams was a native of Brown county, Illinois, where he was born at Camp Point on Oct. 30, 1863, the fifth son of Leonard and Frances Williams. In 1867 the family came to Iowa, locating a mile east of DeSoto, where they lived one year. They then established a homestead in the Fairview neighborhood, north of Winterset, where Mr. Williams spent his early life.
In 1901, Mr. Williams was married to Miss Ella Barnett of Earlham. They moved to Lone Tree, Mo., where Mrs. Williams died about a year later. He then returned to Madison county. In 1906 he was married to Nora Leech, and they made their home in Jackson township for many years, until her death in 1931. In 1932, he was married to Mrs. Jennie McGee.
Mr. Williams was a long-time member of the DeSoto Christian church, and was active in the West Star Methodist church while living in that community. He was a member of the Masonic order in Winterset.
He is survived by his wife; a half sister, Mary Williams Howell of Ontario, Calif., seven nephews, seven nieces, and a step-daughter, Lena McGee of Los Angeles, Calif.
