J. H. McMurray, one of Madison county's oldest citizens, died suddenly early Monday at his home in Winterset. He was 91 years of age.

Mr. McMurray was a native of Illinois, where he was born near Beardstown on Oct. 24, 1853, the son of John and Miranda McMurray. When he was 19 years old he came to Iowa, settling in Warren county, where most of his life was spent. He spent a short period in Des Moines, and lived at Patterson for about nine years before coming to Winterset a year ago.

He was married in 1886 to Ellen Barr at Indianola. They were the parents of one son, C. A. McMurray of Winterset.

He is survived by his wife; the son, C. A. McMurray; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held here Wednesday from the Anderson Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Indianola cemetery.
