Wednesday, November 22, 1944Mrs. Elizabeth Stephenson, well known Barney resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 14th at the Ottumwa hospital, at the age of 69 years. She had been in ill health the last two years, and critically ill since last July.
Mrs. Stephenson, daughter of Anderson and Martha Young, was born in Madison county, Feb. 19, 1875. She was married to Milton E. Stephenson, Feb. 25, 1901, and they resided in the Barney community for a number of years. He died in March, 1934.
She is survived by her son Wade Stephenson, who is in the U.S. army and is stationed at Camp Robinson, Ark., two grandsons, Bob and Jim of Fresno, Calif., and three sisters and four brothers; Mrs. Ora Stephenson of Pierre, S. Dak., Mrs. Carrie Leonard, and Mrs. Hazel Sholes, and Roy, Jesse, Charles and Harley Young, all of Ottumwa.
She was a member of the Church of Christ of Barney and served as postmistress at that town. Short funeral services were held at the Carrol Reece funeral home in Ottumwa Friday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Roland C. King. The Rev. L. F. Davis conducted her services held at the Barney church that afternoon at 2 p.m. and burial was made in the Barney cemetery. Her brothers and sisters and their families of Ottumwa attended her services.
