Lila Hughes, Winterset

Lila A. Hughes, 94, of Winterset, died Dec. 26, 1994 of complications of a stroke at the Winterset Care Center South. Funeral services will be Dec. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset. The Rev. David Bauer will officiate with burial at the Winterset Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Wednesday, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset from noon to 8 p.m. Family visitation will 6-8 p.m.

She was born May 15, 1900 in Adair County to Arthur and Mattie (Parkinson) Mayes. She married Ralph Hughes on Dec. 23, 1922 in Creston. She was a homemaker and resident of Winterset since 1940. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. She was also a 50 year member of the Lorimor Legion Auxiliary and a 50 year member of the Casson Friendship Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; two grandsons; one granddaughter; and one great-grandsons.

Surviving relatives include three sons; Ronald Hughes and wife Carolyn of Longmont, Colo., Keith Hughes and wife Mary of Winterset and Larry Hughes and wife Marilyn of Winterset; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church or Madison County Elderly Services.
