VERNON M. TAYLOR Of Earlham Dies

Vernon M. Taylor, a resident of Earlham since 1945, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1953, at his home here. He had suffered a heart attack two weeks prior to his death.

Mr. Taylor was 61 years of age. He was born March 27, 1891, at Jewell, the son of Frederick and Alice Taylor. He was married in 1914 to Lena Fjetland of Indianola. They were parents of two sons and three daughters.

During his residence here he was employed by the Concrete Construction Materials company. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah lodges and the Sportsmen's club.

He is survived by his wife; and five children.

Funeral services were held last Thursday from the Friends church in Earlham, conducted by the pastor, L. Willard Reynolds, assisted by the Rev. John Alexander, pastor of the Earlham Methodist church. Burial was made at Jewell

Vernon M. Taylor, son of Frederick N. and Alice A. Taylor, was born March 27, 1891, on a farm near Jewell, Iowa. He passed away at his home at Earlham, Iowa, on February 9, 1953, at the age of 61 years, 10 months, and 13 days.

He attended a country school until his parents moved to Jewell, where he continued his education through the high school, graduating with the class of 1909. He worked in various business places in Jewell until he started farming with his brother, Ralph, in 1914 near Duncombe, Iowa.

On October 9, 1915, at the Methodist parsonage in Indianola, he was united in marriage with Miss Dena Fjetland of Ellsworth, Iowa. He is survived by his wife and his five children, who are: Frederick N. of Waterville, Minnesota; Richard W. of Denver, Colorado; Virginia (Mrs. Argyle) Cole of Radcliffe, Iowa; Barbara (Mrs. Merlin) McFarland of Jewell; and Alice (Mrs. Niol) Thomas of Des Moines. He leaves, also, two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Riley of Des Moines, and Mrs. Grover Burr of Webster City, Iowa; two brothers, Frank of Jewell, and Ralph of Clear Lake; six grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

For the past twelve years he has been employed by the Concrete Materials and Construction Company of Cedar Rapids in several localities, coming to Earlham in 1945, where he purchased a home.

He has been in failing health since the latter part of November, but continued with his work until he become bedfast on January 30 of this year.

At an early age he became a member of the Christian Church at Jewell.
