Doyle F. Howell, 72, of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, formerly of Jacksonville, Ill., died Jan. 22, 2005 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Memorial services were held today (Wednesday, Jan. 26) at the All Faiths Chapel in the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Ill., with the Rev. John Adams officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Montpelier Cemetery, Patterson, at a later date.
Doyle Howell was born March 13, 1932, to Carroll and Maude (Lamb) Howell of Norwalk. He married Beverly Algreen on Feb. 15, 1956, in Des Moines. He later married Ernestine (Grissom) Ridder on Oct. 26, 1982, in Walden, Colo. Doyle served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later served in the Army Reserves and then the United States Navy until his discharge in 1962. He was an over-the-road truck driver for 35 years, retiring in 1994.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Howell; one granddaughter, Angelina Howell; one great-grandson, Christian Ridder; and a brother, Delbert Howell.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine, of Camp Point, Ill.; four sons, Gary Howell, Mark Howell and Michael Howell, all of Des Moines, and Danny Howell of Lincoln, Neb.; five daughters, Sheryl Cronk of Des Moines, Melinda Wolfe of Cedar Rapids, Judy Logan of Camp Point, Ill., Brenda Jacoby of Loveland, Colo., and Leila Walle of Salina, Kan.; a brother, Morris Howell of Winterset; three sisters, Margaret Sanford of DESoto and Ethel Lamb and Geraldine Lee, both of Winterset; and 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Doyle F. Howell Memorial Fund.
Arrangements were handled by Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy, Ill.
