Donald Keith Umsted, son of Clyde and Lois Umsted, was born at Dayton, Iowa, on May 14, 1932 and departed this life on July 13, 1942, aged 10 years, 1 month and 29 days. He was baptized in the Lorimor Methodist church on April 9, 1939 by Rev. Merrill Douglas who was the pastor at the time.

Moving with his parents to a farm near Truro, he was received into the Truro Methodist church as a preparatory member. He was a member of the Bluebird class of the church school and had a record of perfect attendance since coming to this community.

He attended the Truro Consolidated school and because of his lively disposition, he was loved by his teachers and parents, and by all who knew him.

Besides his parents he leaves to mourn his loss four sisters, Marilyn Ann, Alice Louise, Jane and Joan; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Umsted of Dayton and Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Orwan of Lorimor.

Funeral services were held in the Truro Methodist church on Wednesday afternoon, July 15 at two o'clock, the Rev. W. W. Watson officiating. Interment was made in the Young cemetery.

LAD DROWNED IN POND NEAR TRURO MONDAY

Dennie Umsted, 10, Waded Beyond His Depth; Was With Sister

A very sad accident occurred Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Umsted when their ten year old son Donnie was drowned in the pond. He and his sister had gone to bring the cows from the pasture and decided to wade in the pond but go out in the deep water. His sister tried to help him but saw she could not and ran to the house and gave the alarm. It was some time before his body was located and as he had been in the water too long nothing could be done. Besides his father and mother, he leaves four sisters.

Murray

We just learned that a nephew of Mrs. C. J. Backer near Truro had been drowned on Monday evening. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Umsted. He and his sister had gone after the cows which were standing in the pond of water. He took off his clothing to wade in and drive the cows out, but in some way went down. The sister could not rescue him and went to the house to report. The body was later found in about nine feet of water.
