Wednesday, July 19, 1961REV. MELVIN TALLEY Dies in Des Moines
The Rev. Melvin Talley, former pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, died Sunday, July 16, 1961, at a Des Moines hospital of coronary sclerosis and diabetes. He was 86 years of age, and had been ill for several weeks.
The Rev. Mr. Talley served as pastor of the Winterset Methodist church from 1935 to 1938. He was the grandfather of Mrs. Emery Goodenberger of Winterset.
Born in a pioneer cabin at Diagonal, the Rev. Mr. Talley was a graduate of Simpson college at Indianola, and a minister and district superintendent of the Methodist church until his retirement in 1946.
He had lived in Des Moines the last 11 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lulu Talley; a daughter, Mrs. Reba Henn of Des Moines; two sons, Dr. C. Horton Talley of Carbondale, Ill., and Elbert Talley of St. Louis, Mo.; and a sister, Mrs. Jessie Chevington of Oelwein.
Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday afternoon from Arnold's Highland Park funeral home. Burial was to be made at Diagonal.
