It becomes our sad duty to record a fatal accident that occurred in Webster township, last Saturday. Peter S. Newman was assisting in moving a house. The house was on rollers and was being drawn by horses. In some way, going down hill, it got the start, and Newman was knocked off the horse he was riding and run over, mashed nearly flat. Every rib was torn loose and he was almost a jelly, but he lived in that condition about two hours.

Note: Peter is possibly buried beside his wife Malinda J. Newman in the Wight Cemetery, Webster Township, Madison County, Iowa. JB
