FLOYD UNDERWOOD, Winterset

Floyd Underwood, 77, of Winterset, died of an aneurysm June 20, 1995 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were June 23 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. The Rev. John Shaull officiated the services and burial was at the Winterset Cemetery

He ws born Nov. 25, 1917 in Des Moines to Merle Judson and Alma Gladys (Dietz) Underwood. He married Marjorie Shoemaker on Nov. 11, 1959 in Des Moines. He was a retired construction worker having worked for Breiholz Construction of Des Moines. He had lived in Winterset for the past 24 years and had served in the Army during WW II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepdaughter; one brother; one granddaughter; and one grandson.

Surviving relatives include his wife, one son, Larry Underwood; five daughters, Linda Schomberg of Fairmont, Minn., Barbara Berry of Winterset, Virginia Brownrigg of Cromwell, Sarah Conley of Creston, and Kathryn Matlage of Winterset; two step-sons, Kenneth Moore of Lenox and Robert Daniel of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Carolyn Underwood of Des Moines and Harold Underwood of Lorimor; two sisters, Eleanor Clemens of Olathe, Kan., and Merline Nichols of Winterset; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
