MRS. CHARLES C. JOHNSTON
Mary Penn, daughter of Edwin and Martha Bell Penn, was born November 26, 1891, on a farm northeast of Winterset in Madison county. She died at the Clinic Hospital in Dexter, October 22, 1958 at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 26 days.
She attended the rural schools of Madison county and as a young women, united with the Penn Center Methodist church and has been a life long Methodist there and at Dexter.
On September 1, 1910, she was united in marriage to Charles C. Johnston, of Dexter, where they have lived since marriage.
Mrs. Johnston was the youngest of 13 children. She is survived by three; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Rhodes of Adel, and Mrs. Emma McLarand of Greenfield; and one brother, Elmer Penn of Stuart. She is also survived by her husband, and children; Elaine at home, Mrs. R. C. Williams, Mrs. Willard Brott, C. R. Johnston and E. C. Johnston all of Des Moines, and Warren E. Johnston of Stuart. Also there are eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and nine brother and sisters.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. from Evans funeral Home.
Burial: Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Iowa
