Wednesday, January 1, 1947Mrs. O. E. Harrell, well known Scott township resident, died at her home on Christmas eve at the age of 57 years. Mrs. Harrell had been in poor health for some time, but had been maintaining her home since the death of her husband seven months ago. She suffered a severe heart attack about five o'clock Tuesday evening, Dec. 24th, and died three hours later.
Mrs. Harrell was the former Bessie Gladys Thompson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Thompson. She was born in Blakesburg, Oct. 28, 1889, and moved to Des Moines with her parents when she was a young girl. After completing her schooling there she taught in the Madison county rural schools.
She was married to O. E. Harrell, March 18, 1908, and they first lived on a farm near Peru and later moved in their present farm where they had since resided. Mr. Harrell died April 17, 1946. She was an active member of the Methodist church.
Mrs. Harrell is survived by a daughter, Katherine, Mrs. John E. Cunninhgam, of Winterset, a granddaughter, Mary Katherine Cunningham; her aged mother, Mrs. Katherine Thompson, and a sister, Mrs. Taylor Grimes, both of Des Moines.
The Rev. W. A. Samp of Chariton, a former pastor of the local Methodist church, conducted her funeral services Friday afternoon, Dec. 27, at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
