Floyd James Dies of Heart Attack
Resident of Earlham Past 20 years; Was 55 years of age
Floyd James of Earlham died at his home there Sunday following a heart attack. He was 55 years of age.
Mr. James had lived in Earlham for about 20 years, and was a veteran of the first World war. For many years he did county road work, but recently had been operating a portable mill.
He is survived by his wife; two sisters, and two brothers. Funeral services were held Tuesday from Bear Creek church, and burial was made in the cemetery there.

June 1946Floyd Stephen James, oldest son of Benjamin and Mary James, was born November 28, 1890 near Loveland, Iowa, and died at his home in Earlham, Iowa, June 2, 1946 at the age of 55 years, six months, and five days.
When Floyd was seven years old the James family moved to Putnam, Oklahoma. Some years later they came to Winterset, Iowa, where Floyd attended high school. During the first World War he enlisted and served fifteen months in the army. After an honorable discharge he returned to Winterset where he engaged in trucking.
On October 23, 1925, he was married to Mrs. Cecile Kenworthy of the Bear Creek neighborhood. They first made their home in Perry, Iowa, but for a number of years have lived in Earlham. For ten years, he operated a road maintainer in Madison county but for some time has owned and operated a portable feed grinder.
Floyd was a member of the Church of Christ in Winterset. He was a quiet man of kindly disposition and made many friends. He was fond of children and especially devoted to their grandchildren. He has been in failing health for several years but has borne it patiently and uncomplainingly. He was taken seriously ill near one o’clock Sunday morning and passed from this world to the life beyond a few hours later. His parents had preceded him in death.
Besides his wife he is survived by a stepson Harris Kenworthy and wife Ruth, four grandchildren, two brothers: Calvin James, Burns, Colorado; Charley James, Ft. Morgan, Colorado; two sisters: Mira James and Mrs. Caroline Heffner of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, also many other relatives and friends.
