HOBART VANCE, Adel

Services for Hobart Vance, 87, long-time resident of Adel who died Jan. 4, 1983, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Jan. 7 at the United Methodist Church, Adel. Burial was at Oak Dale Cemetery.

He was born to Thomas and Sarah Wiseman Vance on March 22, 1895 at Plumtree, N.C., where his sister, Ethel Whitaker, and his brother, Thomas, Jr. still reside. He attended high school and college in North Carolina and served in France during World War I.

After becoming an engineer, he moved to Iowa to work for the Iowa Highway Commission. He married Tina Marie Frerics on June 29, 1930. They were the parents of Tom, who is an engineer in Wintersest; Roger, of Lee's Summit, Mo.; and Rosalie Miller, Kansas City, Mo. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Vance lived in Adel, until moving to Kansas City to live and then to Winterset last June. He was a member of both the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
