ANNA LAURA HOLMES

Anna Laura Jones, daughter of Elijah and Mary Catherine Jones, was born in Madison county, Iowa, October 3, 1879, and died in Portland, Oregon, April 20, 1931.

On December 20, 1899 she was united in marriage to Starling Holmes of Winterset. To this union were born three children, all of whom are living. They are Everett, Seward, Nebraska; Mrs. Opal Shultz, and Earl Holmes of Portland, Oregon. These with her husband mourn their wife and mother. Other surviving relatives are her father, Elijah Jones of Winterset, one brother, Perry, south of town; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Jones of near Winterset and Mayme Jones of Winterset and three grandchildren.

About ten years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Holmes moved to the Dakotas, living in both North and South Dakota, but during the last two years she has been living at Portland, Oregon.

Early in life Mrs. Holmes accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour, which profession manifested itself in her daily living. Mrs. Holmes was patient and uncomplaining in suffering and revealed the spirit of her Saviour especially in her last illness by her self forgetfulness and in her continual thoughts concerning others.

Mrs. Holmes was a member of Eastern Star Chapter, Leeds, North Dakota, and of the Congregational church of that place.

Services were held at the First Baptist church at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, by Rev. John T. Hall and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
