Death Of SAMUEL W. VANNATTA

Some years ago, there came to our county from Illinois, four families, John Vannatta bought the Isaac Reager farm in Walnut township; George F., the Cummings farm in Union township, J. R. Datwyler a farm near Peru. Samuel W. Vannatta, the father of the two Vannattas and Mrs. Datwyler, bought the old Newlon resident on Green street, in Winterset, and made it his home.

He was born in Pennsylvania in 1841, lived in Illinois the greater part of his life, until coming to this city. He had been in ill health for some time and while visiting his son, John, died last Friday. Mrs. Vannatta is quite feeble, and will reside with her son. Her maiden name was Strawn and they were married in 1864.

In addition to the two sons and Mrs. Datwyler, there were present at the funeral, two other daughters; Mrs. Cora Gordon of Fairfield of this state and Mrs. Ada Schaffer of Nevada.

Quite a large number of the friends and neighbors came with the body to Winterset on Saturday and the relatives of the deceased are very grateful for the kindness and solicitude of these friends and neighbors at the time of their bereavement. The funeral occurred at the home on Sunday afternoon, Rev. L. F. Davis officiating. The interment was at the Rock City Cemetery.
