GENE KIRBY Of Winterset Dies

Eugene L. "Gene" Kirby of Winterset, a life-long resident of this community, died suddenly last Wednesday, June 21, 1967, at Memorial hospital here. He was 58 years of age.

Mr. Kirby was a Winterset police officer for many years, as was his father before him.

He was born in Madison county May 15, 1909, a son of Joseph H. and Dolly Lucas Kirby. His life was spent in farming, as a Winterset police officer, and in recent years as a transport truck driver.

He was married at Grant City, Mo., on Mary 1, 1939, to Mary Bruett Hardy, who survives him. He also leaves two step-children, Mrs. Ivan Hart of Winterset and Leon Hardy of Des Moines; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Kirby of Winterset and George Kirby of Burbank, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. George Harris of Modesto, Calif.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. James Louk. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
