JAMES VAUGHN Of Eatlham Dies As Car Rolls Off County Road.

The first highway fatality of the year occurred in Madison county this Monday evening, Nov. 30, 1964, just one month before the year ended.

The victim was James G. Vaughn, 75, of Earlham, who was killed when his car rolled off the curve on County Road E, in front of the Dale Mapes residence, about two miles southeast of Winterset.

Mr. Vaughn had been a resident of Madison county for the las 16 years. He was employed here as a rock quarry superintendent at Earlham.

He was a native of Iowa county, where he was born Dec. 10, 1888, a son of George M. and Isabelle Blaine Vaughn. He was married at Iowa City Jan. 3, 1924, to Maud Leslie, who survives him.

Mr. Vaughn was a member of the Masonic lodge, Des Moines consistory, Za-Ga-Zig Shriner, and the Macabees lodge of Cedar Rapids.

He was a member of the Methodist church at Earlham.

Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by an infant son. In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Marvin Fatka of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Melvin Vaughn of Earlham, Frank Vaughn of Inglewood, Calif., and Charles Vaughn of Huntsville, Ala.; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, William C. Vaughn of Creston and Charles Vaughn of Coolidge, Ariz.; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Estey of Dexter.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Larry McGranahan of the Earlham Methodist church. Burial will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Marengo, with a graveside service there at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
