Henry Hoover passed away at the Strable Nursing home in St. Charles Friday morning and services were held Monday afternoon at the Kale Funeral home. Burial was in the Peru cemetery.

Page 1HENRY HOOVER, Pioneer Dies at 102 Years
The long life of Henry Hoover of Peru came to a close last Friday, March 3, 1961. This pioneer resident, whose life had spanned almost the entire history of Madison county, died at the age of 102 years at the St. Charles nursing home where he had spent his last years.
Mr. Hoover had observed his one hundred second birthday on Feb. 22. He was born and spent his entire life in this county.
He was born Feb. 22, 1859, a son of Israel and Nancy Ray Hoover. His parents were among the early settlers of the county. The pioneer homestead in which he was born was located near the historic old Queen place, on the St. Charles to Winterset road. He was born in a log cabin there.
Mr. Hoover's long, active life was spent in farming. He was married on March 23, 1879, to Sarah J. Ray of near St. Charles. They were parents of nine daughters, six of whom survive. The wife and mother died in 1937.
He was a member of the Elm Grove Methodist church.
The six living daughters are: Mrs. Nancy Childers of Des Moines, Mrs. Pearl Draper of Peru, Mrs. Madge Stevens of Peru, Mrs. Ruby Imes of Arcadia, Colo., Mrs. Rae Fenimore of Peru, and Mrs. Doris Stirts of Grimes. He also leaves 31 grandchildren; 85 great grandchildren; 37 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Hoover of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Kale Funeral home in Truro, conducted by the Rev. W. C. Trembly of St. Charles. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
