Edith Holt, Afton

Edith Holt, 75, died May 7 at Greater Community Hospital, Creston. Funeral services were held Fri., May 10 at the Arispe United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eydie Stephens officiating.

She was born October 27, 1915 in Afton to Clifford and Ella (Wells) Henkle and married John F. Holt in Council Bluffs June 1, 1940. She lived most of her life in the Arispe area with the exception of 1942-46 when she lived in Plattsmouth, Neb. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Drake University in Des Moines, and taught school for many years in Arispe and East Union schools. She lived on the family century farm. She was a member of the Arispe United Methodist Church, Emerald Chapter, OES Afton, Union County Genealogical Society, Arispe United Methodist Women, Bethel Aid and a book club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, and her parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Kerald (Mary) Yearns of Des Moines and Mrs. Leon (Laura) Blanchet of Utica, Neb.; three sons, Lyle Holt of Afton, Paul (Cheryl) Holt of St. Louis, Mo., and Lynn (Dixie) Holt of Winterset; and six grandchildren.

Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery, Afton. A memorial has been established in her name.
