Joe Van Hosen was born in Winterset, on January 17, 1908, and, after a long illness, died at a Des Moines hospital on May 23, 1983 at the age of 75.
He was the son of Orval and Cora (Clopton) Van Hosen. His grandparents were pioneer residents of Madison County.
Joe attended school in Winterset and Des Moines, where he was graduated from Roosevelt High School.
For many years he operated the Pioneer Automobile Agency at 13th and Grand, succeeding his father who was the first used car dealer in the city.
He was married to Rosellen McNerney, who died in 1972. They were the parents of one son, Joseph Michael Van Hosen, of Omaha, Nebraska, and he also leaves his sister, Betty Gibson of Denver, Colorado, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines. Funeral services were conducted at Holy Trinity Church and interment was made in the Des Moines Catholic Glendale Cemetery.
